This is the second release of this Pinot Noir, following on from a small 2023 release. Little Forager is my homage to the Village wines of Burgundy. This is made from three small North Canterbury vineyards – hand tended and hand picked before a natural fermentation and extended time on skins for extraction of beautiful textures and flavours. Gently hand plunged daily, this wine was made using traditional techniques including ageing in French oak barrels for 10 months prior to bottling without fining.

FORAGER WINE
This is the second release of this Chardonnay, following on from a micro release in 2024. Situated on the chalky hillside of this tiny North Canterbury single vineyard, the Chardonnay vines work hard in the prevailing warm winds. Each task is performed in the vineyard with quality in mind and the work is lovingly done by hand throughout the season. Hand picked at the end of March, whilst the vines were enjoying a prolonged period of dry Autumn weather. Gently whole-bunch pressed, with the new juice going into French oak barrels for a natural fermentation over the following months. Aged for 10 months and bottled without fining. Please note: maximum order of 2 bottles. For larger orders please email dom@foragerwine.co.nz

This is the eleventh release of Forager Pinot Noir. 2023 was such a balanced season. A combination of favourable conditions at flowering and a dry harvest provided fruit with lovely harmony and flavour. As always considerable time was spent in the vineyard ensuring each vine carried a balanced load of fruit. Hours spent hand tending the vines was carried out by vineyard owners Andy and Jill Black. The fruit was hand picked at the end of March in the midst of a beautiful Autumn and left to ferment outside in the vineyard then rest on skins for one month before a very gentle press to French oak barrels. The wine was aged for 15 months in barrels before bottling without fining or filtration.

This is the tenth release of Forager Pinot Noir, after frost wiped out the 2021 crop. 2022 was a naturally low yielding season as the vines rejuvenated from the 2021 frost. The season provided challenges throughout – requiring more hands on work in the vineyard as rain and higher humidity bought more growth to the vines. Several passes through this small vineyard to tend to shoot thinning, bunch thinning, dropping shoulders and leaf plucking have provided the natural raw ingredients for a vibrant and expressive wine. The fruit was hand picked in early April and left outside in the vines to ferment with a full 28 days on skins, before bringing to the winery for a gentle pressing to French oak barrels. The wine was aged for 15 months before bottling without fining or filtration.

A season beginning with good soil moisture led to a period of mixed weather through late Spring and early Summer. Several passes through this small vineyard to tend to shoot thinning, bunch thinning, dropping shoulders and leaf plucking have provided the natural raw ingredients for a vibrant and expressive wine. The fruit was hand picked in late March and left outside in the vines to ferment with a full 26 days on skins, before bringing to the winery for a gentle pressing to French oak barrels. The wine was aged for 14 months before bottling without fining or filtration.

The fruit was hand picked in early April and left outside in the vines to ferment with a full 28 days on skins, before bringing to the winery for a gentle pressing to French oak barrels.
